I remember very vividly the first time I walked into a dispatcher’s office. I found before me the typical scene: A desk stacked with paper-based work orders, parts orders, inspection reports, and the all too familiar sight of sticky notes everywhere. 

Just like most dispatcher offices at successful industrial companies, there was a method to the madness. The dispatcher was running the whole operation the best way they knew how, which is often how it has been done for decades before him. 

It doesn’t have to be this hard.

The crewOS team jumped right into the deep end, learning all about the existing workflow, as well as all the people, parts, and customers they have to keep happy in their day to day work. In between the phone calls of new incoming requests or problems in the field I saw the process technically work. 

After a couple of hours observing and taking notes I left with an excitement and a slight bit of righteous anger. Excitement at the opportunity for technology to help dispatchers with easy to use solutions that would make their lives much easier. 

And anger at the fact that it really shouldn’t be this hard. 

• It shouldn’t be so time consuming to keep track of your jobs in the field. 
• It shouldn’t be so hard to rework your schedule when an emergency job pops up on Monday morning or someone calls in sick. 
• It shouldn’t be so hard to get an inspection report sent to the customer on time. 
• And you shouldn’t have to spend days at the end of the month scrambling to get all of your billing and invoices sent.
